Zero to Low Investment Business Ideas

A simple brainstorming session with my Business Entrepreneurship students today produced some great results.  My otherwise reticent students came up with some good, practical business ideas that too in fifteen minutes flat.
Here are the two questions I posed to them:
1.       Do you think that it is realistic and practical to set up a business with zero to INR 1500/-?
2.       If yes…Then what are your zero to low investment business ideas?
To the first question...the answer was an emphatic “YES” which is why the second question was answered with some brilliant answers.  Here is a look at the ideas:
Zero Investment Ideas:
·         Teaching a skill/Running a hobby class
·         Acting as a liaison between job seekers and organizations like stores, malls and hotels looking for employees…something like a placement service.
·         Starting a service catering to the elderly wherein those registering can avail of services like booking tickets, paying bills, buying utilities, groceries, etc.
·         Recycling waste to produce vermi compost by sourcing it from homes/housing societies
·         Agency Services
Low Investment Business Ideas
·         A catering service providing Tiffin’s to people
·         Trading in vegetables
·         Supplying milk
·         Newspaper stall
·         A door to door beautician service
·         A wada pav stall...was I surprised to see the Indian burger/poor man’s burger find its way in to the wannabe entrepreneur’s wish list?  No, considering the success of Jumbo King Wada Pav, Joshi vadewale…definitely not surprised.
While all the ideas are practical and seem to have a market my favorite one (though it has been done before) is…the collection of garbage from homes, its segregation to production of vermi compost…a “green” business idea so in tune with the times.
I was of course a little disappointed that none of the people from a “tech savvy” generation came up with any ideas related to technology…blogging, online stores, websites, internet advertising..The possibilities are endless and what’s more? The opportunities most times are just a click away.  Way to go people!
